Former Battlefield Director Made Statements About EA

Former Battlefield director Marcus Lehto says he doesn't have "anything positive" to say about EA after leaving publisher Ridgeline Games earlier this year. Lehto, also known as the co-creator of the original Halo while at Bungie, left EA and Ridgeline just as EA announced it was cutting 5% of its workforce in addition to shutting down the studio entirely.

Ridgeline Games was officially launched in 2022, with Lehto leading the development of a single-player Battlefield game following his departure from Battlefield 2042's team, while fellow EA studio Ripple Effect will work on a larger Battlefield project.

These layoffs also led to the closure of Ridgeline Games and the transfer of the single-player Battlefield experience to Criterion. After saying he left EA “of his own accord” in February 2024, Lehto released another brief statement about his departure today.

"I don't have anything positive to say about EA either, given my recent departure and the lack of support for what many people, including my team, are going through due to the massive layoffs in the industry," Lehto wrote in his post . he said.

This statement echoes Lehto's statement in February, in which he said, “I was very saddened to see EA lay off my team. “There were so many talented developers who were incredibly valuable to the Battlefield series.” It was the first statement he made after his statement.

After Battlefield 2042, EA aimed to work on a brand new Battlefield project. Along with the layoffs, active development of multiple EA mobile games has also been discontinued, as well as the in-development Star Wars FPS rumored to be based on The Mandalorian.
