A New Decision Has Been Made Regarding the GTA 6 Development Process

Rockstar employees have been asked to return to the office five days a week as GTA 6 development enters its final year. As reported by Bloomberg, an email sent to employees by Rockstar's head of publishing, Jenn Kolbe, stated that the decision to end hybrid operation was made for security reasons.

Rockstar was subjected to a major hacking attack in 2022, and more than 90 screenshots and videos showing the work on GTA 6, which had not yet been announced at that time, were published on the internet. Then last year, the studio released the first official GTA 6 trailer ahead of schedule, again due to leaks.

In addition to the aforementioned safety measures, Rockstar also cited productivity as the reason employees are returning to the office full time. Kolbe said there are “tangible benefits” to working in person. “Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next GTA at the level of quality and polish we know it needs, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game,” Kolbe said in the statement . he said.

GTA 6 Will Now Be Developed Entirely From the Office

The changes in question are expected to come into force in April. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, employees are not happy with this decision. In any case, Rockstar is not the first studio to implement the decision to return to the office. Last September, IGN's Rebekah Valentine published a report revealing that Ubisoft employees were angry that promises were not kept regarding the studio's return-to-office mandate.

Additionally, many major and successful games have been successfully developed remotely, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which recently surpassed 10 million copies sold. Although Rockstar claims that the leaks do not harm the development process of its games, it seems that the company is tired of dealing with such situations.
