DLC Will Not Be Developed for Baldur's Gate 3
Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke announced at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) panel held the other day that the team is not planning any DLC for Baldur's Gate 3 and that they are not working on any sequel.
Instead, Larian plans to move away from Dungeons & Dragons entirely and do something new, leaving the IP in the hands of publisher Wizards of the Coast, Vincke said at the panel. Considering the huge success of Baldur's Gate 3, many players thought that a DLC or expansion pack might be on the way, but Larian disappointed the players with his statement.
The Larian team was asked a similar question in the past about whether there would be a DLC for the game. Speaking to IGN at Gamescom 2023, Larian Studios' senior product manager Tom Butler stated that they had "talks" about doing more for Baldur's Gate 3, and that they were focusing on upcoming updates at that time.
Larian Will Start Working on a New IP
But beyond that, Larian never officially said he would bring DLC or expansion packs to Baldur's Gate 3. As we mentioned before, a lot of new content has been added to the popular game since its August launch last year, and there's so much already in the massive game that even the physical edition consists of four discs. The developers are also currently working on a “robust and cross-platform” mod support plan to accommodate community requests, which has been one of the things the community has been asking for since the game launched.
Although Larian says he plans to move away from the genre a bit, it looks like the team's next project could be another Divinity series game. In an interview with IGN shortly before the release of Baldur's Gate 3, Vincke said that a Divinity: Original Sin sequel could "definitely" happen, but that the team would need to work on Baldur's Gate 3 first.
