Russian Game Consoles Are Coming By Putin's Order
By the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin , Russia is asked to produce domestic consoles that can rival major game consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox. This instruction was made by giving Russia's technology industry until June 15.
According to the news of the Russian Kommersant newspaper, with the order from the Kremlin, work has been started on the production of fixed and portable game consoles. Large Russian technology companies such as VK Group are expected to play an important role in this project . Console production will be carried out by GS Group , Russia's largest set-top box developer .
Under Putin's instructions, VK and GS Groups were tasked with offering both home use and portable consoles to Russian consumers. This step is not Russia's first significant initiative in the video game industry. Last year, he tried to influence the country's gaming communities and has previously considered the idea of creating his own game engine.
However, it marks a notable shift during the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, when the majority of the gaming industry cut ties with Russia. The move is seen as part of the Russian government's efforts to develop its own gaming industry, meaning it is likely trying to offset the effects of sanctions to ease the country's financial woes.
Additionally, developers were given the task of creating an operating system and a cloud system to deliver games and programs to users. However, this task is expected to be completed by mid-June, which seems to be a very challenging process. However, Russia's efforts to develop its own cloud services seem to have not yet reached the desired level in this area.
