Nvidia DLSS will drive generative AI in the future
The impact of Nvidia's DLSS technology in games will gradually increase. According to CEO Jensen Huang, DLSS will be able to generate in-game textures, characters, and objects from scratch in the future.
DLSS will generate textures from scratch
Future versions of DLSS will be able to generate textures and objects from scratch entirely through artificial intelligence , Huang said at a Q&A. Huang also underlines that AI NPCs can also be generated entirely through DLSS. DLSS will further ease the load on GPUs in the future, as it will be supported by artificial intelligence that can generate characters or textures from scratch in games. This can lead to significant gains in both efficiency and performance.
The greenfield manufacturing capabilities Huang mentioned may not actually be that far off. The company is currently working on a texture compression technology based on neural networks to improve texture qualities without changing video memory demands . While traditional texture compression methodologies are limited to 8x compression ratio, Nvidia's technology is said to be capable of compression up to 16x ratio. This is expected to provide a significant improvement in visual quality.
The most important point Huang mentioned for the next generation DLSS is in-game asset production . Currently, DLSS artificially creates frames between real frames. Asset generation from scratch may be the next big step of DLSS. Huang expects DLSS to not only produce in-game assets, but also says DLSS can produce NPCs. We should also note that Nvidia is working on AI NPCs under the ACE program . These NPCs can establish unique conversations with players and respond according to the conversation.
