Payday 3 Failed to Meet Expectations, CEO Was Dismissed
Due to Payday 3 not performing as expected, Starbreeze dismissed CEO Tobias Sjögren and appointed an interim CEO.
The expected failure of Payday 3 spurred developer Starbreeze into action and fired CEO Tobias Sjögren . While Juergen Goeldner was appointed as interim CEO , it was stated that the company needed "different leadership".
Payday 3, released in September 2023, attracted attention with its poor performance and “Extremely Negative” Steam reviews. The game, which attracted a limited audience with less than 300 players, left Starbreeze in a difficult situation.
The CEO change came after former CEO Sjögren announced that he had decided to resign at the end of last year. Starbreeze wants to implement changes quickly before searching for a new CEO. “The company's strategy to create compelling games is that we need a different leadership approach,” said Starbreeze President Torgny Hellström. he said and thanked Sjögren for his achievements over the three years.
While Payday 3's highest player count in the last 24 hours was 378 , Payday 2 still has a strong performance in this area. New CEO Goeldner announced plans to leverage Payday 3's portfolio of intellectual property while retaining its online structure. However, uncertainty regarding future projects and support continues.
Starbreeze acknowledged the disappointing state of the game in January and announced plans to fix the situation. However, it remains unclear how effective these changes will be in increasing the player base.
